The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Service Center Agencies should be acknowledged as the data source in products derived from these data.

This data set is not designed for use as a primary regulatory tool in permitting or citing decisions, but may be used as a reference source. This information may be interpreted by organizations, agencies, units of government, or others based on needs; however, they are responsible for the appropriate application. Federal, State, or local regulatory bodies are not to reassign to the Service Center Agencies any authority for the decisions that they make. The Service Center Agencies will not perform any evaluations of these data for purposes related solely to State or local regulatory programs.

Photographic or digital enlargement of these data to scales greater than at which they were originally mapped can cause misinterpretation of the data. Digital data files are periodically updated, and users are responsible for obtaining the latest version of the data.

    Process_Step:
Process_Description: PRISM ASCII national files were downloaded from http://www.prism.oregonstate.edu/. Using Raster Calculator in the ARCGIS Toolbox - Temperature calculation – First divide by 100 to get degrees Celsius. Use that result in the next calculation and multiply by 9. Use that result in the next calculation and divide by 5. Use that result in the next calculation and add 32. [(degrees Celsius x 9)/5] + 32. A file geodatabase was created for each state. The state boundary was exported for each state and buffered by 8 kilometers. Each temperature raster was extracted by mask, by state. The Raster to Polygon tool was used to create vector polygons from the raster data. The vectors were clipped to the State boundary. A State FIPS field was added and populated for each state. All of the state files were merged together to create a national seamless layer, and re-projected from GCS83 to WGS84. The national file was exported to SDE. See the PRISM web site for more information on the original files http://www.ocs.oregonstate.edu/prism.
